can a regular media data plan work with a pda phone?

I have an att cell phone with text messaging and Internet access. I'm gonna get a PDA phone(unlocked, no contract) pretty soon. Do I need to get the PDA plan? Or can I keep using my current plan?

If you have a an unlimited data feature for a normal cell phone and you put your SIM card in a PDA, you will be able to use the internet just fine. If you have something like a Media Works bundle that includes 5mb of internet, you must keep in mind that PDAs use a considerable amount of bandwidth and will also access the internet without prompting you. It is terribly common for people in your situation to leave a Media Works bundle on their plan, purchase a PDA, and come back the next money with a $500 bill that they did not realize they had accumulated as they had not done any more web browsing then usual. Also, although you technically will be able to access the web with the unlimited data plan for regular phones, if you begin the use the phone often, at&t will begin to track your usage without notifying you. The system will know automatically that you're using a PDA and not your old phone. If you begin to draw heavy bandwidth you will likely recieve a call from corporate stating that you're on the wrong plan and they will automatically change you to PDA connect ($30) a month. If you do not accept to rate plan change, they will past date you for your PDA usage under the regular plan. I can't really recommend what you're doing in good concious unless you're only going to be using it once in a while. I know it's a frustrating situation, but if you're going to have a PDA, you're going to put more bandwidth strain on the towers, so you should have the right plan. If others post on this question stating that they have regular data plans and PDAs working off of them, I'm sure they do- It's common. But it's also common for them to come into my store screaming after they have finally been caught.
