How do I clean a CD-RW/DVD combo drive?

I have a Inspiron 1100 laptop with a Samsung CD/RW-DVD Combo drive (sn324F). Since a week it started to skip playing a DVD every 50 seconds or so. Can I clean the drive and what is the best method, or is the drive bad?

  If it can be cleaned, you will have to buy a CD lens cleaner CD. Several are included in the source page.
