I am a teacher, so my budget is limited, but I would like some type of projector that would allow me to hook up my laptop to it, but also write free form… I thought I heard something like this mentioned once, but can not find it online. Any help is appreciated.

You can use Microsoft Powerpoint, and use the “pen” feature to “write” on the slide.

To use the pen, move the mouse while you’re in the middle of a presentation. You should see a triangle appear in the lower left hand corner. Click on it, move the cursor over “Pointer options,” and then click on “pen.” Using the same menu, you can even change the color of the pen.

This method is helpful for drawing arrows and other simple figures, but its quite hard to write legibly like this. Then again, I don’t assume that you’re writing too much on your transparencies.

One other idea: using a regular projector, you can project onto a whiteboard, and write on the board.

Sorry that I wasn’t able to provide a specific piece of technology that could do all of this.

The above answer is a great answer that got lost in limbo because the asker never chose it as best, and because it was the only answer, it never went to a vote. I’m forcing it to a vote and asking you to vote for it as the best answer. Let’s reward those who take the time to give thoughtful answers!
