Is it possible to get our laptop configured like a cell phone to allow us receive calls on our laptop itself?

Is it possible to get our laptop configured with a “cell phone antenna” (or whatever) to allow us to receive phone calls on our laptop itself, just like a cell phone. Wouldn’t that be just awesome for someone who uses laptops all the time? If so, where can it be done and who does that. If not, why the heck not – ain’t it just so creatively handy?

    no, it is not possible.
Not sure why you would want that anyway, a cell phone is much more portable than a computer
You can, however surf the web from select cell phones for a fee.

Well you can use a Voice / Data modem with your laptop and a suite of software known as vgetty (linux). But that’s suitable only for a land – line not cell phones

Yes you can with certain PCMCIA devices. I know that some of the CDMA devices allowed the laptops speaker and mic to be used.

But only UMTS devices from Cingular allow you to have voice and data simultaneously going.

Your other option would be to use WiFi and VoIP on your laptop, but then you are limited to hotspots.

This will be more common here in about one year.
