My new ACER notebook with windows XP home edition gave me an “OS not found” message.
Just before this occurred, we heard a ticking noise.
Now it ticks several times when we try to start it. It won’t seem to take our recovery disc, either.
Any ideas?

“No Operating System Found” is usually a bad sign. This means that it can’t boot from the disk it’s trying to read. If the ACER has a 3.5″ floppy drive, be sure there’s not a disk in it when you turn the computer on. If it’s unable to read from the hard drive, you’ve got bigger problems, and should send/take it back to where you bought it.

as you try to reboot, keep hitting the delete key or the F8 key to get into the bios. Once the bios opens, there is an entry for boot order. Change the boot order so the disc drive (D) boots first. save changes.Try to reboot with the recovery disc. Windows may merely be corrupted. If you can recover and need to reload windows, you may lose all data on HD.
Good luck.
