Notebook computers tend to have 4200 and 5400 RPM drives due to heat considerations.

Many high-end laptops will come with a 7200RPM drive because the idea is they are going to be used for gaming or other graphics applications that need to load and access data fast. But your standard consumer laptop ($600 to $1500) will most likely have either a 4200RPM or 5400RPM drive. However, if you have a 4200RPM drive you can purchase a 5400RPM or 7200RPM drive to put in it. There won’t be much difference in battery life when using a 5400RPM drive over a 4200RPM drive but if you put a 7200RPM drive in it, it may run slightly warmer and kill off some of your batter life.

Nonetheless you can find 5400RPM and 7200RPM laptop drives from Newegg, http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=380
