Where does the new Apple MacBook lie in the Apple laptop ranking?

Is it below iBook, between iBook and PowerBook, or above Powerbook in features and quality?

    iBook

    14″ Display
    1.2 GHz G4
    Airport Extreme standard, optional Bluetooth
    VGA, S-video and composite video
256MB DDR SDRAM expandable to up to 1.25GB
ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics with 32MB of dedicated DDR memory
    133 MHz system bus
    $1,499
    PowerBook

    12″ Display
    1.33 GHz G4
    Airport Extreme and Bluetooth standard
DVI, VGA, S-video and composite video
256MB of 333 MHz DDR SDRAM expandable up to 2GB
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 graphics with 64MB of dedicated video memory
    167 MHz system bus
    $1,599
For a difference of $100, the PowerBook gives you a faster processor & system bus, internal Bluetooth (a $50 option on the iBook), DVI output, twice as much video memory, and more RAM capacity. For cost-conscious users, the iBook may be a better deal while people who want the best performance will buy the PowerBook.

What sf49rox said is all well and good, but the powerbook you’re comparing with is a generation older than the current macbook. The new dual core intel macbooks will blow anything apple has offered previously out of the water. Now, mind you not as much as apple would have you believe (they advertise it being 4x faster). However, it will boast better power efficiency (longer battery life, or at least the same battery life with a more powerful notebook), much better multi-tasking (with two cores instead of one, multi-threaded apps get a *huge* speed bump), and some new and innovative features such as the new power connector – a very good reason to consider a macbook in and of itself. Other than that, it’s your standard laptop, with the same ram found in other notebooks, a 5400 rpm hard drive, an optical drive, and a few periperal components. I personally feel that the new offering from Apple is an amazing package – pricey but worth it. Not to mention, with a larger monitor (15.4″) than previous models and a rather powerful graphics adapter, this laptop is definitely up to the task of a desktop replacement.

EDIT: you can see a direct comparison of a powerbook G4 to a macbook pro here – http://www.geekpatrol.ca/blog/89/
