How do I make my wireless router securied so that my neighbor’s can’t get free internet from me?
I have a wirless Belkin Router, my friends can come over with their laptop’s and get online no problem. I want to secure it so that others can’t. I also want to make sure others can’t get into my computer through the wirless connection. I have a roommate with a laptop using the wirless connection, and I am hardwired into the router.
How do I set a password up?

You can give whoever you want on your network the information needed to log onto your network. The following link gives you information on how to prevent others from getting onto it.

Set a password, and only tell your friends.

1. Disable SSID broadcast because it sends tells outsiders that you have a wireless network available.
2. Enable MAC address filtering. Each wireless card has it’s own unique ID. Filtering makes it so that only your friends’ computers can connect. However, a good hacker can bypass this.
3. Enable the use of a WEP or WPA encryption key. This will scramble the data as it travels through the air so outsiders can’t eavesdrop. However, you’ll have to share this key (string of characters) with your friends before they connect. Also, WEP keys are weak and can be cracked by persistent hackers of moderate skill.
