Why isn’t my RAM working?

I’ve got a dell latitude C600 – purchased a 256mb pc100 chip but after I installed it, the laptop doesn’t recognize it. Any idea’s?
It had 256mb to start, and dell.com to be sure it was the right kind before I bought it.

Check your RAM compatibility with your original RAM in youe PC. Possible incompatibility.

You installed it incorrectly. It’s bad and you should return it. A setting in BIOS isn’t correct.

you probably bought the wrong kind of chip, it needs the same as the computer

Make sure you seated it correctly, If it was an added stick try reversing the memory sticks in the slots. Some memory isn’t compatible with other. If your old stick was 128mb you probably can’t use it. It is hard to get different memory sizes to work together.

the RAM should be of the same speed and if possible identical in chipset. The best would be to bring the notebook to the place where u r going to upgrade the RAM. Have it installed by them on the spot and fire up to see if it works. You may have got a different type of RAM that would combine …
if u want to mug around further – remove the original and test the new RAM alone to see if it works. If it works alone but not together with the original – then it is working but not the correct type. If it doesnot work on it own – it may mean that it is faulty or your mobo dun support this sort of RAM (which is unlikely).

It might be simply incompatible..but another thing that most of the people don’t kow about, is that the new RAM card might have the same frquency, but it might not have the right Voltage for the motherboard!
It might be why, and it might be any other of what our friends have mentioned!

check that your ram chip is seated correctly and locked in.
