Constant hard drive access in Windows XP?
Windows XP seems to be accessing the hardware all the time, even when I all the applications and services (except for the unkillable system ones). The hard drive chirps every 2 seconds or so, even when there’s no activity.
The processes doing most of the disk accessing seem to be CSRSS and LSASS. The problem persists even after a fresh Windows install, so I suspect it’s some setting somewhere, or a faulty driver. Any ideas on what I could do?
The computer is Acer TravelMate 4020 laptop, with a new 100 Gb Hitachi hard drive (the original drive burnt up).
Are there any laptop computers that do NOT have intermittent fan noise? It is driving me nuts on my Toshiba!?
Every minute or so on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, the hard disk light flickers and this is followed by a 2 or 3 second whooshing sound of the fan coming on and off. It seems to happen even when there is no activity, and it is VERY annoying. I’d like like to purchase a new laptop that does not have this feature. Any suggestions?
