1) can i add DDR2 PC5300 SODIMM’s (2) to my Dell Inspiron Laptop which presently has DDR PC2100 SODIMM’s (qty 2) and expect it to work?

2) can I expect an increase in performance from the 266MHz memory to the 667 MHz memory?

an aside: also can i install nonECC memory where ECC was installed if I remove all nonECC modules?

I’m looking for the actual type’s name, not “duh, you get laptop memory” There are about 11 different major types of memory chips out there. DDR, DDRR, DIMM2, blah, blah, blah… I am looking for the specific type of memory chip, or “stick” that I can install on my Inspiron 8000 to increase the RAM.

Can I have one 256MB PC2700 DDR memory card and one, 1gb PC2700 DDR memory chip (1.256GB total) in my laptop or do the both have to be the same MB? (as in 1-1GB and 1-1gb?)

IBM’s website indicates that the R50 (1831) supports:

Memory
64-bit Double Data Rate (DDR) non-parity SDRAM memory
PC2700 at 333MHz
Two 200 pin SO-DIMM memory slots, one slot is pre-populated with 256MB or 512MB, leaving one socket available
Supports up to two 1GB SDRAM SO DIMMs
Supports maximum memory up to 2GB

I have been told that this memory will work… it’s about half the price of DDR PC2700.
