A tech support guy at aol told me that I need to reinstall windows 98 over top of my old windows 98 in order to correct a problem that I’m having with windows on my laptop. He said this way I won’t loose any of my saved files on my hard drive. He said, if I try and restore windows with the recovery CD that came with my computer, I’ll loose all the files on my hard drive. And I don’t want to loose any of my files by doing a reformatting of my hard drive. So, can anyone instruct me on how to do this, or direct me to a website that has instructions on how to do this?

I have an Averatec 3200 series laptop. The CDRW works fine, but will not recognize DVD’s. I bought it second hand and there is no warranty. I think I just need to update the firmware, but can’t find any site that supports this. What can I do besides replace the drive (which with laptops is a pain) or get an external drive?

I don’t need much, as long as I have WiFi and a DVD drive i’m pretty happy.

Let’s say they all have the same processor which is the new Intel Core Duo and the same hard drive, display and memory size, which is better in terms of media performance, best value/deal, warranty and service, and additional perks? I need a laptop that I can watch TV with and play DVD movies. It should be able to run 3-4 applications without bogging down.
