Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+?

Long story short, I am looking at buying a new laptop.
THe computer would be used for a wide variety of applications such as (but not limited to:) Gaming, digital photo and music editing (and enjoying), viewing DVD movies, surfing the web, and maybe even working from home.
Im trying to decide between one with a Pentium 4 and one with a Athlon 64 x2. The Intel is about $300 less and the ram can be expanded to 4GB. The AMD based one can hold up to 2GB of memory, but the chip is dual-core and by all accounts should be more powerful.
I have pretty much made up my mind between the two, and I guess I’m just fishing for either support for my decision or intelligent debate that makes me think even longer and harder about switching…
The computers are both by alienware, and I know that either one of them is going to blow my socks off, so im not worried about one being “bad” or anything, I just want to cover my bases and be 100% sure before i spend that kind of money.

dell dv 620 vs. compaq d 2000t vs. toshiba m100: which is better?

Let’s say they all have the same processor which is the new Intel Core Duo and the same hard drive, display and memory size, which is better in terms of media performance, best value/deal, warranty and service, and additional perks? I need a laptop that I can watch TV with and play DVD movies. It should be able to run 3-4 applications without bogging down.

what applications do i need to avoid for the macbook pro that runs on intel?

i heard there have been problems when you clone your old mac ibook or powerbook to a new macbook or macbook pro that run on intel processors. something to do with universal binary? i dont know, i just heard no all applications work on the intel chips and some may make the macbook hang or even crash. how will i know which apps to take out from my powerbook b4 cloning it to my new macbook pro
