i forgot my password for my ibook macintosh computer how can i bypass the password or reboot my computer?

I bought Linksys, router and USB Wireless for iBook. (These I was told by a store “salesman” they would work. Well, I did get the Linksys router to work, after jumping thru many hoops. The USB wireless did not, after talking to Linksys, they told me it would not work on Macs. So, now my question is, what do I buy.
The iBook is older (Orange). I have been trying to install 10.3.9 on it, keep getting disk errors. I did not spend a lot for it. Hard drive iffy. I really do not want to spend a lot for the wireless. But would really like to see if this is something that I would like to have, if so, I might upgrade the iBook, later, or maybe buy a newer one. Just wanted to know what my options are. Since the salesman is not much help.
Anyone have any opinions on my options, for home network and wireless. Thanks in advance!

I have a G5 iMac, and a Dell laptop. I would like to view and use my Mac desktop on my Dell laptop. I have tried VNC, but it ran very slow (over 54g airport wireless).

Are VNC servers for the Mac different, and is there a specific one I should use? Is there a different solution to VNC that I should consider for doing this? Basically, I have all of my e-mail, etc. on the Mac, and would like to access this from my Dell laptop. I don’t need to copy data back and forth, just access what is on the Mac.
